Spanish Algarve Services specialises in self catering holidays to the northern Costa de la Luz from Huelva through to the Spanish / Portuguese border at Ayamonte. This area of Andalucia in southern Spain is totally unspoilt by mass tourism. There are charming white washed villages and fabulous beaches. The Spanish Algarve is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual developments associated with Spain. It has been developed on a more human scale than the many of the other Costas and local towns and resorts retain their Spanish culture and character. From Flamenco bars to wonderful candle lit restaurants, life can as energetic or laid back as you want it.
The beaches are of fine golden and white sands and are probably the best in Spain. Deep and wide fringed with sand dunes teeming with wild flowers and bordered by shady pine and eucalyptus trees, they stretch for miles and don't suffer the high-rise development of so many tourist resorts. The weather along this coastal region can be very hot in summer with gentle sea breezes to help keep the temperature more comfortable and even in the winter the weather is usually mild. Costa de la Luz boasts an average of 320 days of sunshine a year and the temperature rarely drops below 17° C.
For the more energetic there are a variety of water sports to be found locally. There are water parks and go-kart tracks, horse riding, cycling and tennis. You could take a scenic river tour along the Guadiana River or a boat trip along the coast. From Ayamonte you can hop on the local ferry (even with your car) and take the 10 minute ride across the river to Portugal. Donšt forget to turn your watch back an hour though!
This area of Spain is becoming renowned for the quality of its golf courses. There are numerous golf courses all within a short drive not to mention the ones across the border in Portugal. There are many courses to choose from including championship ones and those that are less challenging. Spanish Algarve Services can arrange rounds of golf in both Spain and Portugal. It is possible to play in one country in the morning and in the other the same afternoon!
For those with an eye to the past Huelva is the city that Christopher Columbus set sail from in 1492 on his history making adventure to the New World. There are many references to him in and around the city with many roads and buildings bearing his name – Colon in Spanish.
Other culture vultures will not be able to resist a visit to Seville and the magnificent Giralda tower in particular for breath taking views across the city. Take a ride in a horse and carriage and see all the fascinating sights this beautiful and historic city has to offer from the Cathedral to the narrow winding streets in the heart of the old city.
